"Sentence Nutrition" Presentation: Write More Concise, Informative Sentences
Share

Description

Teach your students to write healthier, more sophisticated sentences with more "protein" and less "fat!"

Get them thinking more intentionally about constructing more concise, informative sentences that say more with less. "Brevity is the soul of wit (Shakespeare)."

This Slides Presentation is a complete lesson that walks students through the process of first eliminating unnecessary words, then condensing long phrases into more concise statements, and then adding more substantive details, linked together logically with 'smooth transition' words/phrases.

This lesson follows the "I do, we do, you do" format, with whole-group and individual guided practice, opportunities for critical discussions, independent practice, and a mnemonic song about "Smooth Transitions" to the tune of "Despacito" by Luis Fonsi. (My students LOVE singing this song!)
