Sentence Structures Cue Card
Share

Description

Do your students struggle to write syntactically correct sentences? I developed a sentence syntax card to help students formulate sentences in English word order. Great for any student with language delays, including speech students, the Deaf, and ELLs!

Each card contains 10 different syntax structures and two examples for each structure formula. The parts of speech are color coded to help visual learners. Students can use the card as a reference to keep with them and pull out during any writing activity/assignment. The cards can also be used as a checklist to help students monitor their progress with sentence structure mastery. As they check off each structure, they can then begin to use them in their own writing.

In Deaf education, a curriculum that seeks to assist students with this difficulty is Apple Tree: Curriculum for the Development of Written Language, which is based on a simplified version of the Fitzgerald Key. These sentence structure cards coordinate well with the Apple Tree curriculum, but can be used separately.
