Sentence Writing Probe – First Grade

Measure the ability to copy sentences with these probe worksheets! 10 pages are included, with each page including letters a-z. These worksheets were developed by an occupational therapist with many handwriting supports added.

  • All letters are 5/8 inch in height, an age-appropriate letter size for first grade writers.
  • Sky, grass, and dirt visuals are added to each line to help students visualize where the letters belong on the line. For example, some letters are short and belong in the grass. Other letters are tall and reach all the way to the sky.

How to Use:

  • Copy the sentence on the lines below.
  • Count each accurate letter to determine a handwriting percentage.
  • Complete additional probes at timed intervals to measure progress.

Thank you for your support! I truly care about creating purposeful tools to encourage student development. I hope you enjoy this one!
