"We worked on this the week before 9/11 to be sure to have it completed before we invited our local heroes (police and firefighters) to our annual "Thank you and We Remember" breakfast. We got a lot of compliments on it from our heroes. Thank you for sharing!"

Description

SEPTEMBER 11th Classroom Collaboration Poster—3 options included (two size options with colors assigned and one option without assigned colors ) plus a bonus coloring page. Each student colors one portion of the poster that, when put together, says, "September 11 Never Forget."

This activity is intended to complement/supplement lessons on September 11th, Patriot Day, 9/11, or American history.

Art with Jenny K. has lots of other Collaborative Posters which you can find HERE!

This collaborative poster is the perfect way to start a unit or cap one off. It is an engaging and meaningful way for students to work together to create a large poster that they can be proud of.

This poster includes many options to accommodate different class sizes and to be useful for both primary and secondary teachers.

The final poster is great for:

  • Classroom wall
  • An auditorium (or front office)
  • A hallway
  • Your classroom bulletin board

Poster Options

Option 1: Use all 30 pieces of the poster for the complete poster design. The final poster will be approx. 35" x 42" (depending on printer settings) and create a 5x6 rectangular grid poster.

Option 2: Use only 25 pieces (for smaller classes) and create a portion of the poster that leaves off the "never forget" at the bottom. This poster will yield a poster approx. 35" x 35" for a square poster that is a 5x5 grid.

Option 3: I have included a blank version of this poster to accommodate secondary teachers. This poster has no pre-assigned colors, so students can problem-solve to color the poster any way they choose as a group. I often get this request, so I have included it in this resource.

Also included in this resource:

  • Directions all they way from from coloring to assembly.
  • Colored example of both size posters.
  • Grid reference sheet for putting the poster together.
  • Photo examples of steps, directions, etc. throughout.

BONUS Coloring Page: Group collaboration posters are a lot of fun and leave a lasting impression. However, students don't get to walk away with anything tangible to show their families. I have included a printable coloring sheet for your students, so they have something to keep. These pages are very useful for early finishers.

I hope your students enjoy creating this September 11 collaboration poster and, no doubt, all the meaningful conversations that will come from it.
