Description

This file was created to be used as a word work centre while I work with small groups in Guided Reading, or during Daily Five. The words were chosen by my school’s reading intervention specialist. Teach students to ‘reset’ the activities. I keep a master copy of this Notebook file safe in a different file to be accessed the next year.

Slide 3: student-of-the-day chooses and circles a word-of-the-day. After the student circles the word-of-the-day, I 'save' the file so we can keep track of which words have been used. The word-of-the-day is added to our Word Wall.

Week 1 Centre: Word Slides: students say the words and then touch the words to see what happens.
Word-Generator Slides: students touch the generator and one of the words pops out; the student must say the word; this allows for seeing and saying the words over and over.

Week 2 Centre: Pairs Slides: students find and match words, saying them as they appear.

Week 3 Centre: Anagram Slides: students must solve the anagram to find the word; a clue can be given (I usually print out slide 3 and tape it beside the SMARTBoard so students can check for spelling and possible word choices).

Week 4 Centre: Word Guess Slides: students must choose letters to spell the word; again clues are given and a list of the words is posted nearby to help.

When closing this file after word work, do NOT ‘save the changes’. The file will be ready for next day's centre work.
