Description

Shape Shooter is an interactive MATH program that allows students to investigate shapes and their names. Students compete for the high score as they blow-up various geometric shapes!

I create and develop commercial games, applications and more. I do the same for the students in my classroom. For my fourth graders I identified a specific need; they simply hadn't had much experience with shapes and could name only a few of them. I put my skills to use to solve this area of need.

I created Shape Shooter to engage my students in a unit on shapes. I also used the game as a passive and continuing learning tool by allowing pairs of students to play during their recess time. To say the least, it was a huge hit, and not just with my class.

I hope you and your students enjoy Shape Shooter. The demo version is fully functional, however, it is limited to fifty shots per play. If you (or your students) would like to support new games and purchase the full version, it is available within my TpT storefront.

Compatible with the COMMON CORE STANDARDS:
- Students will identify a polygon and parallelogram.

- Students will identify a square, rhombus, triangle, rectangle, pentagon, hexagon, octagon, circle and semi-circle.

Controls and Setup:
Simply run the executable file on a PC. To play on the SMART Board, simply touch the screen to navigate the menus and to shoot the shapes. Or use the computer mouse to point and click.

Enrichment Controls:
These were designed to give higher-achieving students more control and complexity.
- Right-Click to change the "ammo" or target shape.
- Press the "Space Bar" to add another row of shapes immediately.

Sometimes it would ask me to shoot shapes that weren't available yet. Also, we are a chromebook school, and would be unable to download to each chromebook. It would be more practical for us if this was available as a flash game. Awesome idea! And fun!

Really great way to teach shapes! I also plan to use it as a check to see who needs a little extra help with their shapes.
