Shark Tank Project – 5th Grade Business Challenge

This engaging "Shark Tank" project allows 5th-grade students to work in teams to create their own businesses, simulate real-world entrepreneurship, and pitch their product to "Sharks" (judges). Throughout the project, students will use the Engineering Design Process to brainstorm and design innovative products, practice important math skills like decimals, percentages, and pricing, and apply their knowledge in cost analysis, profit margins, and break-even points.

Key Activities:

  1. Brainstorm & Product Design: Students identify a problem, brainstorm potential solutions, and design a product using the Engineering Design Process.
  2. Cost Analysis – Shark Math: Teams calculate production costs, set pricing, and determine their profit margins while learning to apply math skills in real-world scenarios.
  3. Branding & Marketing: Students create a compelling brand, design logos, and develop advertisements to market their product.
  4. The Pitch: Teams present their product to a panel of "Sharks" (judges), showcasing their business plan, product design, cost analysis, and marketing strategies.
