This resource was created to help reinforce the concept of working with percents. Specifically, students will be calculating discounts and sale prices on different items. This activity provides them with a real-world application of percentages as students shop for items. Prices are all in whole dollar amounts.

Options for implementation:

· Walk the Room – post the task cards around the room, give students a recording sheet and have them move from card to card performing the required calculations.

· Math Station – include the task cards as a station in your classroom. Cards can be broken up to create multiple stations (i.e. 4 cards per station) or have all 20 cards as one station

Extension:

· Give students a predetermined budget to spend. Have students spend as close to that amount as possible. Allow them to figure out what items they can purchase.

· Have students calculate sales tax and have them add that to their total amount.
