Description

Are you looking to expand your collection of short informational text perfect for {fun & interesting} close reading? Text that you and your students can read and reread in one session? If so, then I think you will love this second volume of articles in a new Hello Literacy Informational Text series I'm creating called Hello 411.

I wrote and designed these informational text articles for my students because I was looking for text that was short, interesting, looked like a real magazine article with real photographs and were good examples of the five different nonfiction text structures (RIT.5). These articles are ideal for close reading in grades 3-8 or as read-alouds, shared reading or group reading activities in grades K-2.

There are five articles written (by me) at four different lexile levels ranging from 740L - 1130L. Passage topics are not related to each other, but they share a common theme - COLOR (but see if your students can figure this out without telling them)...basically, hot and interesting topics to kids, not time or month sensitive, and crossing boundaries of culture, ethnicity, income, and socioeconomic status. Passage titles are:

The History of Legos (chronological order)

Sea Glass (cause/effect)

The Psychology of Color (description)

Peacocks and Chameleons (compare/contrast)

What's On Your Plate? (problem/solution)

What's included:

*1 Lexile Level Correlation Sheet

*1 Close Reading Summary Page

*1 Text Comparison Chart with Links to YouTube Videos

*5 Short Informational Text Articles

*4 differentiated levels per article

*1 Teaching Points Page with Questions

*1 Tiers of Vocabulary Chart per article

*2 Written Comprehension Organizers per article

*1 {fun} Research Activity for 1 article

*1 mini-version of each article (4 articles/page)

*1 Sheet explaining Print & Use Options

*1 Sheet explaining options for use with Interactive Notebooks

*3 Versions of My Annotations sheets
