Summer Fun!

This is a fun and engaging literacy activity for pre K, kindergarten or grade one students. This activity focuses on sight words from the Fry First 100 list. This activity works best when played using a pocket chart but it can also be played on any other playing surface.

This activity can be works well for whole group instruction, small group work or by students working in partner pairs. This game is a fun literacy center or workstation. It is also a great fast finisher activity.

To play, place the sight word cards into a pocket chart or onto your work surface. Secretly, slide the three picture cards behind three of the sight word cards so that they can not be seen. Choose a student to read one of the cards. If they read the word correctly they can "peek" behind the card to see if they found one of the mystery pictures. Play continues until the three picture cards have been found.

This activity is easily differentiated. One option is to use all of the sight word cards that are included or you can pre select the word cards that are appropriate to your classroom instruction. Another option is to include more or less picture cards.
