Description

Sig Figs is a really tough subject to learn and to teach. That's why I like to turn my significant figure activities into games to get students engaged.

In this bundle there are two different teaching activities:

  1. Counting Significant Figures Lesson and Guided Notes
  2. Math with Significant Figures Lesson and Guided Notes

In this bundle there are three different practice activities:

  1. How Many Significant Figures? Pixel Art Google Sheets Activity and matching printable
  2. Math with Significant Figures Pixel Art Google Sheets Activity and matching printable
  3. Significant Figure Race

Lessons and Guided Notes:

  • Thought provoking Question of the Day
  • 16 & 14 Powerpoint Slides in two different styles: Whimsical & Classical
  • Links to Copy Google Slides
  • Half Page Guided Notes for Interactive Notebooks
  • Full Page Guided Notes for Packets or Binders
  • 20 & 10 Show What You Know Questions designed for Self Assessment

Pixel Art:

In the Pixel Art activities, students answer 20 questions on the topic in a Google Sheet. It is preprogrammed to be self grading. The students will immediately know whether their answer is correct or incorrect. When correct, the sheet will uncover a few blocks to reveal a secret image. Each of these activities comes with a printable version as well.

Significant Figures Race:

The Significant Figures Race has 10 versions for you to distribute to your class. It can be used individually, but I like to pair kids off and have them race against each other to finish their series of questions first. The trick to these sheets is that the answer to a question becomes part of the next question, so students must have high accuracy in order to complete the activity.

WHO IS IT FOR?

This lesson is perfect for a first year high school chemistry class, or physical science class.

NOT SURE WHERE THIS FITS IN YOUR SCHOOL YEAR?

I love pixel art activities because they provide immediate feedback. My students really enjoyed it and gained a better understanding of sig figs in the process. I will use the races for review throughout the semester.
