Description

Do you want simple, easy-to-use, and easy prep independent and targeted CVC or short vowel word reading practice for your early learners or special education students? Do you need a way to add interest and engagement to your basic phonics lessons? These simple CVC task box activities provide plenty of repeated and independent practice in basic word reading, spelling, and comprehension.

Task box activities have been carefully prepared to concentrate on the short vowel skills your early learners or special education students have learned without including phonograms they have not. In this simple version, there are no digraphs or blends and only three sight words are utilized in the comprehension cards: the, is, and on.

These task cards assume your students know the sounds of all the letters of the alphabet.

This resource includes 10 sets of engaging and simple short vowel phonics task card activities!

Sets 1-3: Match the Word. In these tasks, students look at a picture and must find the correct word to velcro to the card. (11 task cards in each set + cover cards)

Sets 4-5: Match the Picture. In these tasks, students look at a word and must velcro the correct picture to the word card. (15 task cards in each set + cover cards)

Set 6: Clip the Word. Students see a picture and clip the correct word. (15 task cards + cover card)

Set 7: Find the Word. Students see a picture and must circle the correct word. The selection for these words includes nonsense words and similar sounds. This is a more difficult task than Set 6. (15 task cards + cover card)

Set 8: Write the Word. Students see a picture and must write the word in Elkonin boxes. (15 task cards + cover card)

Sets 9-10: Match the Picture to the Sentence. Students read a simple vocabulary-controlled text and must match the picture that the sentence describes. There are fewer task cards in these sets because of the difficulty level of this task. (7 task cards + cover card)
