Description

This collection of virtual lab activities on simple machines was originally designed as a make-up activity for students that didn't get to complete the labs in class. Now that the world has gone virtual, they are the perfect companion for a science, technology, or engineering classroom teaching in a remote learning or hybrid setting.

Each lab is filled with videos explaining the real-world applications of various simple machines, recorded lab experiments, and digital force sensor data. Students can see and experience concepts like work and mechanical advantage, and show what they know with CYK questions, most of which score themselves! It's the next best thing to being truly hands-on. Perfect for middle school and early high school learners.

*Note about videos: Videos in Google Forms will just look like still images until you either view the form in "preview mode" (little eyeball icon, top right of form) or assign the form to students. In "edit mode" the videos just look like still photos.

I used this with my students with learning disabilities in Physics as part of my Simple Machines unit. It is very well planned out and easy to use.

I used these as lab replacements if students were absent during our simple machine lab days. They are heavy in vocabulary, but do allow students to explore each simple machine.

These were great for distance learning, but I'll also use them when we are back in person.

My students absolutely loved this resource. I love that it was self guided and the google forms marked themselves. I used this as a review during my simple machines unit. Would love to see more of these types of Science check ins.
