Description

Engage your students in one step equations with these no-prep digital and print math worksheets. Gamify practice with these interactive self-checking made for Google Sheets activities. 2 activities of one step equations practice.

This activity includes 2 self-checking worksheets.

How it works:

Guess the Retro: In this self-checking activity, students show their knowledge of solving one step equations. If correct, the student receives immediate feedback and unlocks one of the hidden items. After each question is answered, the students are presented with a fun game where they try to guess the decade in which a retro item came out. This makes it great for quick assessments of students to see who's understanding. It also prevents guessing.

Coin Collectors: This is a 20 question activity, students solve one step equations. In the self-checking game Coin Collectors, students go head to head to collect the most coins. When questions are answered correctly, students gather coins from the prize boxes to beat their opponent. The objective is to end the game with the most cumulative coins. As students answer the questions, their score is calculated automatically.

To play against one another, two students share the SAME Google Sheet and take turns answering questions. STUDENTS DO NOT NEED PRIOR KNOWLEDGE OF GOOGLE SHEETS TO PLAY THE GAME. The students answer the questions in any order they prefer. After solving the question on a whiteboard, scratch paper, or the provided workspace, students type their final answer into the appropriate cell.

What they will like:

Students are given immediate feedback and immediate chance to rework to show mastery

You will need to make a copy of the Google Sheet activity for your students. If you are making the activity as an assignment in Google Classroom, make sure that you select "make a copy for each student".

Self-checking: each response turns green if correct. It will turn red if incorrect so they can try again.

Scaffolded Response Sheets included: Encourage students to show their work and slow down guessing. Have students work out the problems first on paper then check on the computer, or write their answers as they answer digitally. This makes for easy differentiation!  I especially encourage writing out each step when solving one step equations to prepare for two and multi-step equations.

Here's what you'll get in the One Step Equations Activity:

  • 1 Guess the Retro activity (10 questions)
  • 1 Coin Collectors game (20 questions)
  • Recording Sheets
  • Teacher Guide
  • Answer key

Prep is quick and easy: assign the activity to your school management system, print and copy the recording sheet if you wish to use it!  This is a great activity for a sub day or for absent students.

Use as a whole class activity, small groups, rotations or station work, early finishers or enrichment. Great for students who need extra practice or reteaching.
