Description

Remember throw-back Thursday? (Is that still a thing?) Let's rewind. The simple past is where the stories live. These 28 task cards give adult ESL grammar students focused practice with the simple past tense using both regular and irregular verbs.

At the beginner level, the simple past is one of the first tenses that lets students say something real about their own lives. Getting it right (knowing when to add -ed, recognizing the irregular forms, building a complete sentence) gives students the foundation they need to communicate in daily life with confidence.

WHAT'S INSIDE these 28 task cards:

  • ✅ 28 black-and-white task cards covering simple past spelling, pronunciation, and sentence construction with regular and irregular verbs

  • ✅ Answer key

Also available: an Easel version for digital use.

THIS IS DESIGNED FOR YOUR ADULT ESL STUDENTS

This set was written with adult students in mind. That means no childish scenarios and no content that feels out of place in an adult classroom.

The cards work just as well with mature secondary ESL students who need a solid grounding in simple past forms. And if you teach mature secondary native English speakers with grammar gap, they’ll appreciate the no-nonsense practice that doesn’t treat them like grade schoolers.

GRAB IT AND GO

Print, cut, and then pull them out whenever your students need focused simple past practice.
