Students will Simplify and Algebraic Expression by using the distributive property and collect like terms. These digital and print task cards will help students practice how to simplify algebraic expressions. To practice simplifying algebraic expressions students can use the print version and work independently or with partners. These printer friendly versions come in an “everyday” style and a Halloween edition that can easily print black and white. Or have students view the task cards online with Google Slides to complete practice.
Students will simplify algebraic expressions practice problems including the following skills:
- Using the distributive property over addition and subtraction
- Distributing a negative
- Distributing a fraction
- Collecting like terms and distinguishing between an “x” and an “x^2”.
- Collecting like terms that equal 0
These task cards are great for group and partner practice, bell ringers, exit tickets or independent practice.

You choose the format and the theme!
There are 16 task cards in two formats and two styles. Both the printable and digital format include two versions - Halloween theme and an everyday style. It is the same problem set for all styles and formats (there are only 16 unique algebraic expressions in this product).

Digital Option
The digital task cards for evaluating expressions are on Google Slides. The digital slides are not editable - you cannot change the problems. However, you can choose to assign all 16 slides, or make a copy of the slideshow to delete slides to assign just a few, or separate into different slideshows for multiple assignments.
When students display the task cards on Google Slides in “presentation” mode, the students will see the question, click to the next slide and see the answer.
