Simplifying Algebraic Expressions Lesson

After this lesson, students will be able to apply the correct property and operation to simplify algebraic expressions according to the Common Core Math Standards. This is one of the units in the Expressions, Equations and Inequalities Bundle. This lesson is also part of our 7th Grade Yearlong Curriculum.

Students will begin by reviewing the meaning of some main vocabulary terms such as:

• Equation
• Solution
• Coefficient
• Commutative Property
• Distributive Property
• Combining like terms

Students will learn how to write algebraic expressions and then simplify those expressions using Order of Operations along with the following properties of mathematics: Commutative, Associative, and Distributive.
