Description

Exponent properties and simplifying expressions with exponents can be tricky for students to master and often take a LOT of practice before students gain confidence. This 2-pack set of notes has been designed to help students gain necessary extra practice with simplifying exponential expressions using exponent rules. Inside each set of notes is a reference containing each of the exponent properties in case students need a quick refresher.

➡️This set of notes is best used after already introducing each of the exponent properties. I always use this set of notes first.

Resource #1 - Simplifying Exponents:

  • In this first set of practice problems, students have 30 practice problems that require a mix of all exponent properties.
  • Inside the notes is a reference section including all exponent properties.
  • Problems range from an Easy - Medium level of difficulty.
  • 30 examples included

Resource #2 - MORE Simplifying Exponents:

  • In this second set of practice problems, students have 22 practice problems that require a mix of all exponent properties.
  • Inside the notes is a reference section including all exponent properties.
  • Problems are a bit more involved than in the first set of practice problems. Problems range from a Medium - Hard level of difficulty.
  • 22 examples included

This 2-pack set of notes has been designed to help students gain comfort in simplifying exponential expressions using various exponent rules. There is often more than one path to a correct answer. A sample answer key is provided, but other paths could be used depending on which exponent property is used first.

✔️All examples have been thoughtfully chosen to generate discussions about misconceptions and common mistakes, and the notes themselves have been designed to fit perfectly in an interactive notebook.

Do your students need extra help with understanding exponent properties?

  • This exponent rules discovery investigation will help to guide your students through deriving each of the exponent properties and will promote a more concrete understanding of why they work.
