Description

This printable algebra resource includes two engaging, no-prep math activities that combine rigorous practice with a fun hidden picture format. Students will work on simplifying expressions and solving systems of equations, uncovering a hidden image as they go.

This is also included in my 8th Grade Hidden Picture BUNDLE.

Each activity includes a unique set of problems and a different hidden picture, making them perfect for use as independent work, early finisher tasks, or algebra review.

Designed with upper middle school and high school students in mind, these activities provide meaningful practice without requiring heavy coloring—just enough to keep students engaged without feeling like a lower-grade task. It’s an ideal way to add variety to your Algebra 1 or Pre-Algebra classroom while reinforcing key concepts.

In the first activity, students will simplify 14 algebraic expressions—one set focuses on combining like terms without distributing, and the other includes expressions with distribution. Each answer corresponds to a specific image they’ll locate on the answer key and then find on the coloring sheet.

These are print-and-go, no-prep activities that offer meaningful practice with just the right amount of engagement—students won’t feel overwhelmed with coloring, but they’ll still enjoy the challenge of revealing the hidden images.

Included:

  • 2 Question Sheets (28 questions total)
  • 14 simplifying expressions (without distribution)
  • 14 simplifying expressions (with distribution)
  • 2 Hidden Picture Coloring Sheets
  • Full Answer Key

Perfect For:

  • 7th–10th Grade
  • Algebra 1, Pre-Algebra
  • Independent work, review, test prep, or sub plans
  • Engaging practice that balances fun and rigor

Solve word problems leading to equations of the form 𝘱𝘹 + 𝘲 = 𝘳 and 𝘱(𝘹 + 𝘲) = 𝘳, where 𝘱, 𝘲, and 𝘳 are specific rational numbers. Solve equations of these forms fluently. Compare an algebraic solution to an arithmetic solution, identifying the sequence of the operations used in each approach. For example, the perimeter of a rectangle is 54 cm. Its length is 6 cm. What is its width?
Solve linear equations with rational number coefficients, including equations whose solutions require expanding expressions using the distributive property and collecting like terms.
