Description

Looking for an engaging, self-checking simplifying fractions activity for Grade 6?

This color-by-number activity focuses on simplifying fractions. It is a print-and-go, low-prep resource designed for straightforward classroom use. Students solve 12 multiple choice problems, match each answer to a color key, and color the corresponding sections to reveal a picture.

Students work through two pages of questions before applying their answers to the picture page. Each correct answer links to a specific color, creating a clear solve–match–color process. The multiple choice format supports accessibility while still requiring students to apply their understanding of simplifying ratios.

The distractors in each question are based on common student errors, such as only simplifying one part of a ratio or stopping too early. This makes the activity useful not just for practice, but also as a formative assessment tool. Incorrect answers lead to incorrect colors, which students can identify as they work, providing immediate feedback without a separate answer reveal.

This resource is well suited to math centers, independent practice, early finisher tasks, review lessons, or end-of-unit consolidation.
