Description

Looking for an activity to engage students who are practicing simplifying rational expressions? In this no prep digital activity, students will need to simplify a rational expression by factoring the numerator and denominator. This is a self-checking activity that provides immediate feedback for students. If students correctly simplify a rational, a path connecting the question and answer is revealed. If students answer incorrectly, the box turns red.

This digital activity is perfect for students to gain confidence when simplifying by providing repeated exposure of this skill. Your students will never want to go back to worksheets again. Prep is quick and easy. Just assign on Google Classroom or create a link that will allow for a force copy.

Here’s what you’ll get:

  • Google Sheets Digital Activity

This digital resource uses Google Sheets™ and can be used on Google Classroom and Google Drive. If you haven't created a free Google account, you will need to do that before opening this activity. Each student will need their own Google Account to open this activity. Once you have added the resource to your google drive you can assign to your students. When assigning, make sure you select "make a copy for each student" if assigning on Google Classroom. If assigning using a different platform, ensure students are working with a COPY of the activity. Delete any answers before sharing with your students.

Rewrite simple rational expressions in different forms; write 𝘢(𝘹)/𝘣(𝘹) in the form 𝘲(𝘹) + 𝘳(𝘹)/𝘣(𝘹), where 𝘢(𝘹), 𝘣(𝘹), 𝘲(𝘹), and 𝘳(𝘹) are polynomials with the degree of 𝘳(𝘹) less than the degree of 𝘣(𝘹), using inspection, long division, or, for the more complicated examples, a computer algebra system.
