Description

This single-variable equation activity is a choice board project that gives both you and your students some say in how they show what they know. Students can complete a three-in-a-row option or by columns/rows - whichever you choose! This single-variable equations practice allows students to demonstrate their understanding, covering the following topics:

  • Order of operations (no variables)
  • Combining like terms (with and without the distributive property)
  • Applying the distributive property
  • Solving one-variable equations

This choice board project has an extensive rubric that covers both CCSS standards and expectations of the teacher in the students' presentation of their work. A single-variable equation activity like this is a great way to review or wrap up a unit in Pre-Algebra or Algebra 1!

Solve linear equations in one variable.
Give examples of linear equations in one variable with one solution, infinitely many solutions, or no solutions. Show which of these possibilities is the case by successively transforming the given equation into simpler forms, until an equivalent equation of the form š˜¹ = š˜¢, š˜¢ = š˜¢, or š˜¢ = š˜£ results (where š˜¢ and š˜£ are different numbers).
Choose and produce an equivalent form of an expression to reveal and explain properties of the quantity represented by the expression.
