Description
Are you trying to include more reading comprehension in your science class? Do you want to increase student understanding of key vocabulary? This two page reading comprehension passage is written as an introduction to the skeletal system and includes strategies for analyzing a non-fiction text. Students will record what they know already and questions they have as a pre-reading activity. While reading students are instructed to find key vocabulary, main ideas, and other important information. After, students are given short response questions to help them sum up what they have learned.
A separate check for understanding and vocabulary matching activity is included and can be used as part of the reading activity, as a homework assignment, or as a quiz.
This article compliments any unit on the human body or anatomy. It can be used as part of an introductory lesson, in science stations, saved as an emergency sub plan or used as an extension for quick finishers.
The passage can be photocopied separately and reused for each class or given as a package to students with the question sheet. Printing two per page would make this reading an excellent addition to an interactive notebook.
After reading students can check their understanding using the multiple choice and matching questions.
