Looking for an experience that will allow students to practice lab skills, glassware handling, and math topics like ratios and density, consider this lab!  Students will create different solutions of borax and water and see which solution(s) yield the best crystals.  Added bonus:  Students can take the crystals home as a tree decoration if they celebrate Christmas!  

Students take on roles as they work in teams of 3 or 4 to conduct the investigation.  Add on to this activity by discussing topics like density, saturated solutions, ratios, dissolving rates, etc.
