Are you looking for experiments that are fairly easy, with little cost, and quick but STEM based? Then this lesson is for you. It involves one of the easiest ingredients in winter - snow. The experiment examines how clean it is. The lesson plan is written using SIOP form. One way to do this experiment is in a science center but I like to have Fridays be our project days and my students write about every project we do. You can buy them as a package with this.

I used this experiment to teach why we should not eat snow or icicles and also how pollution affects us. From this experiment we start examining pollution locally as a type of weathering and also create and use different types of graphs. Even if you do not do those things, the experiment is fun and quick and a great motivational tool. Many of the numbers involved in this experiment are fractions which is another thing I tie in.

This includes, not only the lesson plans but some suggested worksheets if you do not have science journals. It is written in SIOP form with suggestions for extensions and modifications. Please feel free to give me feedback. This will help me to know if sharing this type of thing is valuable to others.

I aplogize for such a long delay in responding as I lost control of my account. When I was in grade school, for the most part, I thought of science as boring. As I grew and had kids of my own I go to attend some of their lessons and could not believe how wrong I was. The answer was the 'hands-on' approach. Yes, activities are the concrete that makes it all worthwhile and getting them moving is awesome. I hope this year is a good one for you!
