Description

This hands-on snowman counting activity is the perfect way to bring building and number practice into your winter theme! Simply tape the snowman faces (each with a different number of coal pieces in its mouth) onto tin cans or plastic cups to create stackable snowmen.

Students will use the snowman counting cards to build each snowman stack in the correct order by counting the coal pieces, making this an engaging snowman math center that supports number recognition, counting, and visual discrimination skills.

These interactive snowman activities add meaningful play to your winter math centers while strengthening fine motor skills, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Plus, the stacking component keeps preschoolers and kindergarteners fully engaged and learning through movement!

Perfect for winter small groups, math centers, or thematic winter math rotations.

Here's what you'll get (in both color and black & white):

  • snowman counting cards with 1-10 pieces of coal in each mouth (small cards & extra-large cards)
  • 16 snowman number cards with 3, 4, 5, or 6 tin cans

Materials needed for this snowman math center:

  • 10 tin cans or plastic cups
  • packing tape

My students loved this activity. They have asked to do it every time it snowed...it was almost as if they correlated the snow with the snowman activity. Love their engagement! Thank you for creating and sharing this resource!

Such a fun and unique resource for my little ones! I printed the snowman faces on sticker paper for easier application. We started with the cards using only 3 cans and we'll work our way up. :0)

When counting objects, say the number names in the standard order, pairing each object with one and only one number name and each number name with one and only one object.
Understand that the last number name said tells the number of objects counted. The number of objects is the same regardless of their arrangement or the order in which they were counted.
Count to answer “how many?” questions about as many as 20 things arranged in a line, a rectangular array, or a circle, or as many as 10 things in a scattered configuration; given a number from 1-20, count out that many objects.
