Description
This social-emotional learning activity is to assist children and adolescents struggling with getting stuck on their “own plan” as well as social perspective-taking. It is organized to identify a want/need, recognize possible consequences, determine expected or unexpected behaviors, and generate outcomes of the desired item/action. This can be helpful for children and adolescents with autism, executive function deficits, language disorders, ADHD, etc.
This is designed to be used when a circumstance occurs resulting negative outcomes. It leads the student through additional steps in the problem-solving process for improved outcomes on the next occurrence.
Question prompts are provided within the exercise as part of a mediated learning experience that helps to lead and support your student in developing a sense of whether their want/plan is appropriate.
Conjunctions are also provided for children to sequence and verbalize their problem-solving into complex sentence forms. Conjunctions used are if/then, because, and since.
This resource includes 9 pages can be printed or used digitally. It can be given to the student as their own personal guide or resource.
