The following is a Formative Assessment which instructs students to apply their knowledge and understanding of the parts of Social Structure to a make believe but real world story about a character named Jim.

Students are instructed to read the story and use the information to list the following in a graphic organizer which is included about Jim:

- his Status Set

- each status as achieved or ascribed

- his master status

- rights and obligations for each status

- an example of role conflict

- an example of role strain
