1) Moon phases project to assess student knowledge of the moon phases and why moon phases occur. Students label the phases of the moon, write the reasons for moon phases, and more!
2) Solar system object project to allow students to research knowledge about objects in the solar system. This solar system object project lists various planets, moons, and dwarf planets to research.
3) Sun, Earth, and Earth's Moon Quiz via google form. This Sun, Earth, and Earth's Moon quiz allows teachers to access knowledge of students' understanding of the Sun, Earth, and Earth's Moon in a convenient format. Community building questions are included in this assessment on the Sun, Earth, and Earth's Moon key components.
4) "Habitable Objects & Mars Quiz" using google form. This "Habitable Objects & Mars Quiz" allows teachers to access knowledge of students' understanding in a convenient format. Community building questions are included in this assessment on the habitable objects and Mars key components.
Includes: There are four different solar system activities.
1) The moon phases project allows the use of creativity to draw and label the moon phases and write about moon phases. A rubric is included which allows students to self-grade their moon phases project. A helper question is included connecting moon phases to the impact on Earth's tides. The moon phases project can even be used when going back to school to practice and assess knowledge of the moon phases.
2) Solar system object project allow the use of creativity to search for a chosen object in the solar system. An example teacher response is included for Earth. Students can work with partners and turn this information into a slideshow. Students can enjoy picking their solar system object and research helpful information about their chosen solar system object.
3) Google form to assess comprehension of Sun, Earth, and Earth's Moon key components. The correct answers are imbedded for the four multiple choice questions including concepts such as what is found at the center of the solar system and how many moon/s orbit Earth. On this Sun, Earth, and Earth's Moon Quiz, there is a helper CER question with sentence stems included about the importance of learning about the solar system.
4) "Habitable Objects & Mars Quiz" via google form to assess comprehension of key components related to habitable objects and Mars. The correct answers are imbedded for the four multiple choice questions including concepts such as what is not a habitable factor. On this "Habitable Objects & Mars Quiz", there is a helper CER question with sentence stems included about if students believe human life on Mars would ever be possible.
Setting: Can be completed in a virtual or in-person setting.
Usage: Can be used for an Earth Science unit, solar system unit, beginning of the year when going back to school, mid-year, end of the year, review, a sub day, or whenever works best.
