Description

Teach and review the characteristics, organization, formation, and historical models of the solar system with this complete Space Science bundle! This resource gives students multiple ways to learn and apply key concepts through foldables, notes, readings, digital practice, a scale model activity, and a Google Form quiz.

Students will explore the planets of the solar system, the order and organization of objects in space, the Nebular Theory, historical models of the solar system, and how the solar system formed. This bundle is perfect for building a strong foundation before moving into other astronomy topics such as Sun-Earth-Moon interactions, stars, and the universe.

Students Will Practice:

  • Identifying the planets of the solar system
  • Describing characteristics of the planets
  • Understanding the order of the planets from the Sun
  • Comparing historical models of the solar system
  • Explaining the Nebular Theory
  • Describing how the solar system formed
  • Understanding the organization of objects in the solar system
  • Using scale to model distance and size in space
  • Applying solar system vocabulary through print and digital activities

Great For:

  • Space Science units
  • Astronomy lessons
  • Solar system review
  • Interactive notebooks
  • Science stations
  • Digital learning
  • Independent practice
  • Homework
  • Sub plans
  • Test prep
  • Middle school science classrooms

This Solar System Bundle provides a strong mix of direct instruction, hands-on modeling, reading comprehension, foldable activities, digital review, and assessment practice to help students build a clear understanding of how our solar system is organized and how it formed.

NGSSMS-ESS1-3
Analyze and interpret data to determine scale properties of objects in the solar system. Emphasis is on the analysis of data from Earth-based instruments, space-based telescopes, and spacecraft to determine similarities and differences among solar system objects. Examples of scale properties include the sizes of an object’s layers (such as crust and atmosphere), surface features (such as volcanoes), and orbital radius. Examples of data include statistical information, drawings and photographs, and models. Assessment does not include recalling facts about properties of the planets and other solar system bodies.
NGSSMS-ESS1-1
Develop and use a model of the Earth-sun-moon system to describe the cyclic patterns of lunar phases, eclipses of the sun and moon, and seasons. Examples of models can be physical, graphical, or conceptual.
