"This is good practice for my 4th and 5th graders who are struggling with multi-digit addition and subtraction. They enjoyed solving the riddle and using those answers to check their work."

Description

Do your students need some multi-digit addition & subtraction practice AND need to learn about our solar system? Combine the two and keep them engaged with these self-checking printables. Included in this unit are five “Solar System Mystery Fact” question sheets, five corresponding message sheets and answer keys. Each question sheet contains a mixture of addition & subtraction questions both with & without regrouping. The printables are differentiated as follows:

- “Solar System Mystery Fact” #1 – Four-digit addition & subtraction

- “Solar System Mystery Fact” #2 & #3 – Five-digit addition & subtraction

- “Solar System Mystery Fact” #4 & #5 – Six-digit addition & subtraction

To complete the activity, students should answer all the questions on the question sheet to find each letter’s corresponding number. Students then use that information to complete the fact on the corresponding message sheet by putting each letter on the line that corresponds to the correct number. Some letters may occur more than once in the answer and some may not appear at all. If done correctly, a solar system fact will be revealed.

These worksheets could be placed in a math center or provided to students for independent addition & subtraction practice.

**Please note: The mystery facts will only be correctly revealed if students are using the question & answer sheet of the same number**
