Calculating money is often presented in multi-step word problems. Coding the word problem helps to ensure that important information is identified and each step is accounted for and understood. Graphic organizers or drawings can be used to help visualize the steps of the word problem. Navigating word problems has been examined in several sets of lessons. We now address it with a focus on calculating money.

What are some strategies that can be applied to help solve a multi-step word problem involving money?
