Description
In the self-checking activity, Battery Drain, students solve 2-step equations and attempt to guess the mystery word before they run out of battery life. In this hangman style game, as students correctly answer questions, they are able to guess letters in attempt to guess the mystery word. The students continue to answer questions in any order and guess letters until no questions remain. Can the students guess the mystery word or phrase before their battery drains?
Note: There are 10 2-step equations questions for students to solve. The equations include only integers. Please look at the preview to see if the questions are appropriate for your students.
The students answer the questions in any order they prefer. After solving the question on a whiteboard, scratch paper, or the provided workspace, students type their final answer into the appropriate cell. If correct, the students receive immediate feedback by earning an additional guess and revealing a fully charged battery next to their answer.
In contrast, when students answer incorrectly, their answer turns red and a drained battery appears to let them know they should go back and revise their answer or seek help from their instructor.
STUDENTS AND TEACHERS DO NOT NEED PRIOR KNOWLEDGE OF GOOGLE SHEETS TO ENJOY THE ACTIVITY. HOWEVER, PLEASE BE SURE TO GIVE EACH STUDENT A COPY OF THE RESOURCE SO THEY DON'T ACCIDENTALY EDIT YOUR ORIGINAL COPY.
Suggestions for use:
- Assign to students in Google Classroom or other LMS to practice solving 2-step equations. Students will receive instant feedback on if they are solving questions correctly.
- Great for a review of 2-step equations for 8th graders or to have 7th graders practice solving equations.
