Solving Equations Parent Assignment
Share

Description

We know as educators that you don't really understand a topic until you can successfully teach it to someone else! Parent assignments are the ideal way to assess student learning, communicate on a deep level with families what their child should be able to do, and a creative alternative to the traditional worksheet for homework! Assign 2-4 problems that students take home to teach to any adult (parent, neighbor, older sibling, etc.). I usually give students a few minutes to look the assignment over at the end of class so that they can talk together about how they will teach their parents with each other. I try to give one of these assignments out for the one of the most important lessons in each unit. Parents can see what their child should be learning in that unit, and can tell if their child is struggling by their explanations and confidence level. This file is a Word doc so feel free to edit to personalize it for your students' needs!
