Description

This is a rigorous, standards-based end of unit test for solving equations covering the skills of solving one, two, and multi step equation. These 12 solving equations questions are made to reflect the difficulty of a state test exam.

For this assessment students should be able to:

  • solve an equation with one variable
  • write an equation from a word problem
  • know if an equation has one solution, no solution, or infinitely many solutions
  • solve equations with variables on both sides
  • cross multiply a proportion

Included are 3 versions of the assessment:

  1. Practice- Use this as a pre-assessment, or a study guide.
  2. Quiz- The assessment to give students.
  3. Challenge- A more challenging version of the assessment. Not all questions were made harder, but this version extends the thinking of students and will provide a challenge. There may be some additional skills needed on top of those mentioned above.

All files come as ready to use PDFs. Questions too hard or too easy? There are provided links for editable Google Docs set up so all questions are easy to adapt for the needs of your students.

Solve linear equations in one variable.
Give examples of linear equations in one variable with one solution, infinitely many solutions, or no solutions. Show which of these possibilities is the case by successively transforming the given equation into simpler forms, until an equivalent equation of the form 𝘹 = 𝘒, 𝘒 = 𝘒, or 𝘒 = 𝘣 results (where 𝘒 and 𝘣 are different numbers).
Solve linear equations with rational number coefficients, including equations whose solutions require expanding expressions using the distributive property and collecting like terms.
