Solving Exponential Equations | Change Base | Card Sort | Activity | Practice
Share

Description

Objective: Students will work in groups (2-4 students per group) to deepen their understanding of solving equations with changing the base (no logarithms required) by sorting cards that pair equations with their answer(s).

Description: In this hands-on activity, students are given a set of 16 cards with different equations that use changing the base to solve. Working in small groups, their task is to correctly match each equation with its corresponding solution. Students will work on problems together, but they all individually work out the problem on a whiteboard or notebook paper.

This activity encourages collaboration, critical thinking, and peer teaching as students discuss how to solve equations and check each other’s work. Once all cards are sorted, groups can compare their answers with an answer key to ensure accuracy.

Included

Card set of 16 different problems that require changing the base to solve

Answer sheet to place cards
