Description
Do your students need to work on solving multistep equations? Get your students moving and engaged while working with partners or in small groups to solve multi-step equations with this math center round robin activity! This product has activities for FOUR math stations.
Split your class into small groups. (I find that four or less in a group works best.) Groups will spend approximately 8-12 minutes at each station, working through that center's task cards.
Students will record their answers on their individual answer documents. When they are finished with the station, they will follow directions to find the SECRET LETTER that is associated with their station. When they finished all four stations, they will have found the SECRET WORD!
This SECRET WORD is a word YOU CHOOSE before you print the activity, and the letters to your word will be printed on the cards that you will hang around the room.
Station One: Students will complete 8 task cards with a variety of multi-step equations. They will add their solutions together to find the secret number.
Station Two: Half of the students in the group will complete 8 A cards and the other half will complete 8 B cards; however their answers are the same! As they answer the questions, they can compare answers to make sure they are correct. They will add their solutions together to find the secret number for station two.
Station Three: Students will use multi-step equations to solve 4 geometric shapes. They will find the value of x as well as the value of each angle of the given figure. They will add the x-values together to find the secret number for station three.
Station Four: This station has 6 number riddles. Students will start with the card labeled START. After the solve the riddle, they will look for their solution on another card, then they will answer the question on that card. They will make a chain of cards, connecting the questions to their answers. The solution to the last card will lead them to the secret number for station four.
Each secret number is associated with a letter that is used in the SECRET WORD you chose. When students are finished, they will have found the four letters of your secret word.
It is easy to change the secret word, so you can have a different word for each class of the day so students don't pass the word along!
