Description

Digital + Printable | 6th, 7th, 8th Grade Math | Great for Practice or Review

Looking for a fun, interactive way to practice solving one-step equations? This self-checking Google Sheets activity is perfect for reinforcing equation-solving skills while keeping students engaged and getting instant feedback—without giving away the answers too soon!

What’s Included:

  • 1 Self-Checking Google Sheet (digital activity)
  • 1 Printable Worksheet (mirrors the Google Sheet for added flexibility)
  • 18 One-Step Equations (featuring variables on both sides & negative numbers)

How It Works:

Each problem includes three blanks:

  1. Choose the correct operation (add, subtract, multiply, or divide)
  2. Apply it to both sides of the equation
  3. Enter the correct solution

Once all three blanks are filled in, the sheet checks the answer:

  • Correct? A star with "Nice Work!" appears
  • Incorrect? A confused alien pops up for a second try!

Students won't know if they’re right or wrong until they’ve completed all steps, encouraging critical thinking and discouraging guessing.

Skills Covered:

  • Solving one-step equations
  • Understanding inverse operations
  • Working with negative numbers
  • Equations with variables on both sides

Perfect For:

  • Independent practice
  • Homework
  • Sub plans
  • Review days
  • Early finishers
  • Math centers

Let your students practice solving equations in a fun, no-stress environment—with instant feedback and a little alien-themed motivation! 👽⭐

Understand solving an equation or inequality as a process of answering a question: which values from a specified set, if any, make the equation or inequality true? Use substitution to determine whether a given number in a specified set makes an equation or inequality true.
Use variables to represent numbers and write expressions when solving a real-world or mathematical problem; understand that a variable can represent an unknown number, or, depending on the purpose at hand, any number in a specified set.
Solve real-world and mathematical problems by writing and solving equations of the form 𝘹 + 𝘱 = 𝘲 and 𝘱𝘹 = 𝘲 for cases in which 𝘱, 𝘲 and 𝘹 are all nonnegative rational numbers.
