Description
This is a direct instruction Algebra 1 lesson including notes built around an I Do → We Do → You Do model, incorporating NYS Regents level questioning. Students need to have some background of factoring quadratic expressions prior to this lesson. Students will spend this lesson solving quadratic equations by factoring. At the end of the lesson, students will work backward with the factoring method to create a quadratic equation based on given roots.
Objectives
- Rewrite a quadratic equation/function in factored form.
- Calculate the roots/zeros of a quadratic function by factoring.
- Solve a quadratic equation by factoring.
Perfect For
- Algebra 1
- Regents‑aligned instruction
- Clear, structured notetaking
- Gradual release teaching models
Also included in the Bundled Unit:
Other Lessons in this unit:
Introduction to Quadratic Equations
Vertex Form of a Quadratic Equation
Solving Quadratic Equations with the Quadratic Formula
Solving Quadratic Equations in Vertex Form
Solving Quadratic Equations by Completing the Square
Modeling with Quadratic Equations (Geometric Application)
Other Materials in this unit:
Goal Setting, Self-Assessment and Reflection (U7: Quadratic Functions)
