Description

This solving quadratics by factoring jigsaw rotation will support students thinking about solving quadratics with GCF, easy trinomials, and difference of squares factoring techniques! Students work in groups to complete problems, be able to compare and contrast how they performed solving (and picking their factoring method), and check to verify that their solutions are correct.

I like to use this activity with one of the two suggested options (detailed instructions included in purchase) as an in-class practice activity. Students can work on the same step with different quadratics and rotate through all steps or work together on each step and then jigsaw for discussion. In addition, this jigsaw rotation activity can be utilized as homework, extra practice, stations, class review, bell work, or exits slips! Using the jigsaw option would be a great bell work to warm-up their brains the day following the lesson. Each student could also take home a solving quadratics problem for homework and then jigsaw the next day for more discussion.

This solving quadratics by factoring jigsaw rotation is best used with groups of two (2) or four (4), but can be used with any number of students.

Included in this product are teacher instructions for both suggested options, discussion suggestions and twelve (12) engaging problems with an answer key for each problem. Five (5) of the problems involve solving by using the GCF factoring method; five (5) problems involve solving by using easy trinomials factoring method; and two (2) problems involve solving by using the difference of squares factoring method.

If students need more practice with factoring, check out my other resources on factoring.

If you like this jigsaw rotation activity, check out these others.

I hope this solving quadratics by factoring jigsaw rotation provides a way to solidify student's understanding of quadratics, how to factor, and the zero-product property.
