Description

Add a twist to traditional task cards with this fun and engaging whole class powerpoint game! Teams will choose "lucky ducks" after each round if they successfully solve the four radical equations on each task card.

Objective:

Students will solve radical equations with square roots. Required skills include solving linear equations, solving quadratic equations and checking for extraneous solutions.

I love using whole class games to keep things exciting while students practice new concepts, but so many games leave teams waiting around until it is their turn. I also hate when one team is in the clear lead and the others give up because they know they can't win. So I designed a game that would solve these problems and I think you will love it as much as I do!

You will give each team the first task card and a few minutes to solve the four radical equations. When time is up, all teams will reveal their answers. Teams that answer correctly get to pick a duck from the "pond." When you click on their chosen duck, point values are revealed.

Here's the catch! Sometimes, the duck will reveal that they have earned between 1 and 5 points. However, some ducks reveal that they lose points or can steal points from another team. This means that the winning team changes frequently throughout the game and they won't know who wins until the final round. They will try to save their points by building alliances with other teams!

What's included?

  • 8 task cards with 4 questions each.
  • PowerPoint Presentation with 50 "lucky ducks"
  • Ducks pre-linked to random point values
  • Answer Keys for all task cards
  • One page at-a-glance teacher answer sheet for easy checking
