Description

This center is designed for 3 weeks use but can be used however the teacher deems appropriate. The first week is simply picture sorts with the mats. There is no paper-pencil activity as this is their first time with the sorting activity/concept. The second week is an independent sort sheet that they turn in for assessment. This mirrors the sort they did the previous week but allows them to show what they know. The third week the students will do a graphing activity. Choose some of the cards to use in this activity. Then the students will do some type of graphing activity. At the beginning its hands on graphing (building with manipulatives) but then gradually becomes paper-pencil show what you know papers (all included for your use in this packet.)

All of my Sort It Centers follow the same format with different concepts. In my own classroom i use these sorts one after the other in my sorting center tub. Every 3 weeks they are introduced to a new sort, do an independent sort, and then a graphing activity.

You will find that by the end of the year all students have a better understanding of sorting and classifiying, graphing and analyzing data.
