Special Needs Awareness Presentation - Learning Disability Simulations

Used this during our annual respect week to freshen it up!

This is a wonderful resource to help my firsties develop awareness and empathy for friends who may have learning differences. I saw my students become more kind and helpful as a result of these resources.

This was a fabulous resource that I used in building a unit focused on autism awareness with my 2nd graders.

This was a great resource to help us plan a Special Education Awareness week for our school.

I actually turned it into a Google Slides presentation since that is the platform I use and had other things I needed to present as part of this topic as well. We used breakout rooms for the different activities and it worked really well. Just a FYI, make sure to really stress that part of the experience is to feel the pressure of being rushed when the students are working through the activities. Even though I told them ahead of time that I would be saying things like, "what is taking so long," and "how come you don't know this" and I still had one girl in tears. She was super sweet. Some of us sensitive souls can't help ourselves even when we know it isn't for real! But...it did make for great conversation about how students with learning disabilities can feel. And then, I had students not want to participate and we used that as a talking point because yes, students with learning disabilities might shy away from volunteering if they aren't understood.
