Suggestions for implementing:
“All About Spiders” Fact Book:
First Grade - complete a few pages of “All About Spiders” together and finish in learning centers or with partners.
Second and Third Grade - “All About Spiders” is a great review of basic spider information to begin a study of spiders. It can be completed independently. Flexible enough to use along with other research sources to create a more in-depth project.
Poster Project:
- Children complete Spider Fact “Sloppy Copy” sheet - write 3 interesting facts using complete sentences about spiders from this unit study.
- Spider outline with lines for writing the final copy from the “Sloppy Copy” sheet. One fact on each spider. Three spiders for poster/easel paper.
- Children use easel paper/poster board and watercolors to create an evening sky for spiders. Hint: When children have completed their painting, have them paint over the whole scene with black paint diluted with water (or just use the dirty rinse water from their cups) to darken it up. Create a web by stretching out cotton balls.
Extension idea:
- Oral Presentation - gives young learners experience in sharing the information they have gathered.
- Presentation rubric included as a bonus gift.
