How I use these worksheets:

  • Students have a 10s dice and a 1-9 dice.
  • Students roll their 2 dice and write the place value number, for example, if they rolled 50 and 4 they would write 54.
  • Continue this process to make a second number.
  • Students then follow the split strategy steps, relying on their knowledge of 10s and 1s to split the numbers up.
  • Students combine the 10s and 1s to find the total.

Great resource - it really helped my students visually see what is happening. My only suggestion would be providing a subtraction version so you can practise splitting for the inverse operation. I would love to see in the future also a resource for splitting with regrouping - I would purchase that in a heartbeat!
