This is a pain killer spot-test lab. You will analyze the chemical behavior of 5 known over-the-counter pain medications before running an analysis on 2 unknown substances. Students will then write 2 CER paragraphs as a forensic chemist testimony identifying the substances using lab evidence.

This lab can be used to discuss the differences between intensive and extensive properties and to cover chemical reactions. This was also particularly powerful when bringing up infamous cases against drug chemists such as Annie Dookhan.
