☔ “It’s Raining Kindness!” Hedgehog Writing Craft with Visual Supports
Adapted for Special Education, Autism, and Early Learners

Celebrate kindness in a creative, differentiated, and hands-on way with this adorable hedgehog umbrella craft, perfect for special education, autism-friendly classrooms, and early elementary learners! This low-prep activity promotes social-emotional learning, writing development, and fine motor skills, using visual supports and multiple levels of engagement to meet the needs of every student.

Students will respond to the prompt: “I show kindness by…” and decorate their hedgehog’s umbrella with raindrops showing kind actions. With four levels of support, even pre-writers and emerging writers can participate with confidence and joy.

Four Differentiated Levels of Engagement:

Level 1 – Labeled Picture Choices
Students choose pre-labeled raindrop images and glue them to their hedgehog to complete the sentence.

Level 2 – Kindness Phrase Choices
Students select from pre-written phrases to show how they show kindness.

Level 3 – Phrase Writing
Students write their own kindness-related word phrases.

Level 4 – Sentence or Paragraph Writing


Students write a full sentence or short paragraph about how they show kindness.
