Spring Coding 

This directional coding activity helps students practice following arrows, navigating obstacles, and planning a path on a grid. Learners build early coding skills such as sequencing, problem‑solving, and spatial awareness while having fun completing each challenge. 

What’s Included:

  • 15 Pages (different size grids and levels)
  • 1 example to use to teach the children about directional coding
  • 3 pages of 7 x 5 grids with letter & number coordinates
  • 1 sheet of obstacles and arrows to cut for the 7 x 5 grids
  • 3 pages of  5 x 5 grids
  • 3 pages of  5 x 4 grids
  • 3 pages of  4 x 4 grids
  • 1 sheet of obstacles and arrows to cut for the 5 x 5, 5 X 4 & 4 X 4 grids

How to use:

  • Print the grid pages that you wish to use
  • Print the obstacle & arrow page that go with the corresponding grid
  • Children fill in the grid by cutting what obstacles and arrows they wish to use for their grid
  • As an alternative, the children can also draw their own images, obstacles and arrows on the blank pages as well as writing - Help the ________ get to the __________. 
  • Use as an assessment of directions/coding skills
  • Use in small groups
  • Use during math centres
