Description
SEL DAILY CHECK-IN FOR STUDENTS WITH A SPRING THEME!
A foundational aspect of social emotional learning (SEL) is to check in with students, especially when they enter your classroom. Students begin their day or their learning session by writing the date and selecting the face that matches their current mood. Teachers can take a quick pulse of the class, potentially problem-solving issues before they arise.
Included in this product:
- Worksheets with three designs — four different emojis : clovers, rain clouds, Earths & flowers (spring theme).
- Each design is differentiated to accommodate a variety of student needs and teacher styles:
- The first version contains only emojis and feelings. Students circle/color emoji that matches their feelings. Appropriate for all grades, especially 1st and 2nd. Double-sided copy lasts for about a month.
- The second version contains emojis, feelings, and space for students to write a sentence. Students circle/color emoji that matches their feelings. Option to write a brief sentence describing what’s on their mind. Designed for a 5 day school week. Appropriate for late 2nd & 3rd grade.
- The third version contains the emojis with no feelings written underneath. Students circle/color emoji that matches their feelings & write the feeling word that matches. Option to write a brief sentence describing what’s on their mind. Designed for a 5 day school week. Appropriate for late 3rd & 4th grade.
Reasons to check in with students:
- You show that you care about your students. They will feel loved and a sense of belonging to the classroom community.
- It’s running documentation, which can be used for attendance, meetings with administrators and parents.
- If students are responding with more negative emotions (tired, sad, angry), you can try to problem-solve the issue before it could impact other students or optimal learning.
- Students can practice expressing their feelings.
- Opportunities for incidental lessons of how to handle strong feelings, whether of excitement or anger, so that we can still make good choices.
- When you have time, students can share out their feelings with the group; when there’s less time, you can quickly scan their responses and speak to students need more support. You make it work for you!
- My students *love* the seasonal emojis!!
Printing options:
This product is purposely created so that there are two of the same pages, back-to-back! Why though? When I have to print at school, I would like to print double-sided pages of the same page. There is no option in the print dialog to be able to print one single page in a double-sided format. However, there is an option to print two consecutive pages double-sided. I figured many other teachers face the same dilemma, so I decided to place two of the same pages, back-to-back, so that teachers could easily print a double-sided copy of one page.
Printing tip: select “shrink oversized pages” or “scale to fit” so that the borders & graphics stay within the printable area.
