Description
Purpose:
- This activity focuses on a variety of visual perceptual skills which are beneficial for participation in the classroom setting.
- Visual discrimination is the ability to notice similarities and differences between shapes, pictures, letters, numbers and patterns. This skill is important for reading, writing, and math skills such as telling letters apat, spotting errors, and identifying matching images.
- Pattern Recognition is the ability to identify repeating sequences and what comes next with shapes, colors, pictures, and/or objects. This skill supports early math development, problem solving, and logical thinking.
- Figure Ground Skills help children find important information in a busy background. This skill is utilized when students find a specific word on a crowded worksheet, locate their name on a cubby or paper, or find materials in a messy desk.
- Visual Scanning is the ability to move eyes across a page or space in an organized manner to find information. This skill is important when reading, searching for answers on a worksheet, or copying from the board.
- Visual Closure is the ability to recognize a whole object/picture when only parts are visible. This skill is important for puzzles, interpreting pictures/diagrams, or predicting words when reading.
